my laptop keeps flashing a folder icon with a question mark

My laptop is repeatedly flashing the file icon with a question mark. I tried I internet recovery and then reinstalling but it doesn't show the hard drive to reinstall. This has been happening for a few weeks now. At first it would switch on by force start or just on it's own. But this time it's not working at all. What should I do? What's the problem?
