air buds that are not an Apple product stop working after about 5 seconds

I purchased some air buds that are not an Apple product. When I pair them with my iPad I don’t have a problem but when I pair them with my iPhone XR they stop working after about 5 to 10 seconds then if you leave them for a minute they work again for 5 to 10 seconds again
