Acer ED323QUR monitor doesn't come out of sleep mode when cold booting my 2018 Mac Mini.

I have an Acer ED323QUR 32" monitor connected to my 2018 Mac Mini. I am using the HDMI port on the monitor. The monitor will not wake from a cold boot. Repeated (manual) power on/off will get it to connect, with a screen that asks if I am having trouble logging in (giving me options to reset my p/w). From that screen I can do a restart and the monitor will come on. There doesn't appear to be a way to shut off power save mode on the monitor either. If I leave the Mac Mini on, the monitor will wake from power saving mode, when I touch the track pad or keyboard.

The Acer ED323QUR also has DisplayPort input, which is far less problematic for Mac's than HDMI.

To move the Acer to DisplayPort, all you need is a USB-C to DisplayPort cable.

Then plug that cable into one of the 2018 Mac Mini's Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports.

Changing to the USB C to DisplayPort cable worked. Thanks for your great advice. The one other change I made on the monitor was to shut off autodetect and default to DisplayPort. That didn't work when I was using the HDMI connection and when I first connected the DisplayPort cable, it didn't work in autodetect mode. I thought I would add this piece of info in case others run into the same problem.
