I have some new APPs on my computer. Are there charges? I don't think I was aware of the charges and don't want to add to my bill

It would help if you named the apps. Generally, macOS never installs paid apps.
If you just upgraded to Catalina for the first time, macOS 10.13 replaced the iTunes app with individual apps for Music, Podcasts and TV.

Microsoft Word is not installed by upgrading to macOS Catalina. Yes, it’s a paid app, but you installed it yourself either before, or after the upgrade.
