Magic mouse keeps randomly disconnecting

There are so many (old) questions already posted describing this issue. I have tried a god-knows-how-many approaches to fix this issue over the past YEARS and nothing fixes it.

I have a magic mouse which keeps disconnecting randomly for a few seconds and then connects again. I used to have a different magic mouse which kept disconnecting randomly for a few seconds and then reconnected.

I have this mouse on Mac mini (2018) with this issue. And I had the other mouse on this same Mac with the same issue. I also had the other mouse on an older Mac mini (which I replaced in past two years obviously) and I still had the same annoying issue.

I have a MacBook Pro (2018) that never had this issue. In past I had iMac which never had similar issues. Over past 10 years I used quite a few mice and computers and only this specific setup seems to be giving me issues.

So at some point this issue started. All of the hardware has been changed over time; Mac, Keyboard (always using wired), Mouse, Monitor. I even changed locations where I live over these years along with pretty much anything that could theoretically effect the connection.

My OS is always updated to latest and am currently using Catalina 10.15.5.

Now the only connection between my old setup (previous Mac mini and previous Mouse) and the new one should be that I migrated from old Mac to new one. So I believe it is possible to suspect that whatever is causing these interruptions was migrated with the rest of the data. (The MacBook Pro that I have was not setup with migration and does not have this issue).

It seems that this must be a known issue but is there also a known solution?

I tried to reset the BT module and similar approaches. I managed to factory reset, restart, repair... There is nothing I can do about batteries since the new mouse does not have access to it. I tried some commands in Terminal which I found online with no luck either.

So did anyone perhaps found an alternative solution? Since all my hardware is changed by now it seems like the only way to fix this issue is to reset my Mac completely and drop all the data I have on it. And for obvious reasons this is not something I would like to do. I am completely happy with putting all the data to external drive and then putting them back once reset. But the problem with MacOS is extracting "all the data". Then I guess there is "not using Apple mouse" which is also a bit extreme...

Hi Matic2,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. I understand you have an ongoing connectivity issue, when using a Magic Mouse with your Mac mini.

From what you've shared, it sounds like you may want to create a new test user on your affected Mac, then check for the same behavior. This will help determine if the issue is in fact related to data stored in your account.

Cheers!

Hi,

Thank you for your answer. Let me first apologize for not responding sooner but I have only recently managed to fix the issue.

After trying pretty much every idea out there I was left to consider the possibility that both (previous mouse and the new one) have same or similar hardware issue instead of software. I put this theory to a test by subtle intervention to this unopenable device which has given me satisfying results.

I bashed the darn thing against my desk. The mouse is a bit deformed; slimmer from top to bottom but a bit wider on edges. My desk seems to be unharmed fortunately. The mouse is now working as expected (at least for past 2 days). So overall it seem that this method is a success for fixing this type of issue.

It is possible that the mouse was losing power. But we will most likely never know.
