I have kept my old phone (iPhone 6S) and changed the sim however obtained a code to keep the old number however a new number is now in place do I need to deregulated iMessage or is that just when you switch to a new phone that isn’t an iPhone. If so how do I keep my old number? Thank you

You need to change the number on your Apple ID. After the change, allow up to 24 hours for the change to sync. Before trying to make the change, sign out of Messages/FaceTime (if applicable).
