Your phone storage cannot be upgraded. It will always be the storage capacity you bought. In order to make more room, you must delete photos, messages, apps., etc. Anything you want to keep should then be stored on your computer or external disc. You bought icloud space which is a synching service used to keep devices in synch.

If you bought more storage through Apple, it was to increase your online storage on iCloud (Drive). Check your receipt to see if it says iCloud. iCloud only backs up your phone preferences, settings, and app *data* depending on your settings. iCloud Drive doesn’t store the apps themselves, which usually is the issue if you lack storage on your iPhone.

If you have many apps, even many small apps, that will fill up your iPhone’s storage. If you have several large apps that take up a lot of storage (hundreds MG or over 1 GB) when installed that can also be a problem.

If you are saving photos on your phone at original resolution that also takes up space.

I had the same exact problem! First stop deleting it won’t help I tried it. What I wound up doing was buying the 200 GB cloud plan to make sure there was definitely enough space, literally copied all my pics to my computer just in case, made sure everything I wanted on the cloud (pics, notes, messages, etc...) were all set to on for the cloud. AND then I did a total save and reset on the phone to make it like it was brand new. TADA my phone is fixed. My storage for other now says 3.5 instead of 50.

Hope you can get it to work.

After this I reset my cloud storage to a lower setting, but I had also taken all my pics off so I didn’t need as much.

I have a solution....I had the same issue and it showed up all of a sudden. So yesterday I called Apple Support and what they told me was I needed to back up and reset my phone. Come to find out I didn't have enough space on my computer to backup. So what I figured out was I needed to update my phone. I never do the update right away apparently I waited to long and it bogged down my storage. I went to update and it wouldn't let me not enough space. So here's what I did...got to

-Settings

-General

-iphone Storage

-Click on the App

-then Offload App

You'll want to do that for the top apps those are the ones that are taking up the most space. Not to worry you won't have redownload the apps. I wrote mine down just in case, I didn't know what to expect. I offloaded about 10 or so apps. Then I tried the update again. It updated. Then I looked at my home screen and those apps I offloaded were still there and all I had to do was just click the app to update it. Everything was fixed. I now have storage available.

I hope this helps!

Please provide more specific information about your iPhone. The details will help to give you more specific advice.

  • What is your iPhone model?
  • How much storage (16GB, 32GB, etc.) did it come with?
  • What iOS are you currently using?
  • In the Settings App go to iPhone Storage (General>iPhone Storage). How many GB of storage does says you’ve used (out of your total storage)?

iPhone Storage can also tell you:

  • Which type of files (photos, apps, etc.) take up the most space
  • The storage size of each app on your phone (listed from largest to smallest)
  • System size—the iOS and related data—is at the bottom. System can use a large amount (5 GB+) of your available storage.

Removing App and Photos:

  • Did you totally delete the apps or offload the apps?

Deleting an app removes the app and all app data. Offloading apps deletes the app itself but saves app data (to use if you re-download app). App data can be greater than the app itself; data takes up storage if app is offloaded.

  • There is a related post asking about freeing up space after deleting photos. The answer might help you.

Error Messages?

Are you getting specific error/system messages on your iPhone that your storage is full? If so, what exactly is the message(s) and when do they occur?

No! Be careful. If you delete your photos and video from your phone, they will also be deleted from iCloud. If you are using iCloud Photos, deleting photos from one device, will delete them from all devices with iCloud Photos enabled.

Before deleting, you must save (transfer) your photos/videos to your computer to keep permanent copy.
