Do I need a iPad cover, if I am buying the magic keyboard?

iPad Pro 2020 and Magic keyboard I am getting ready to purchase the new iPad Pro 4th edition. I also plan to purchase the Magic keyboard when it becomes available. I am not sure how the new Magic keyboard will function. Do you get a second cover to put the device when it's not attached to the keyboard (eg. kids are using it to watch a movie)? Or does the keyboard detach from the back of the cover so that the device is protected when not in use with the keyboard? Thank you in advance

Cover for iPad 9thGeneration After 12 years i have upgraded my iPad to a 9th Generation. Bought online. I also purchased a smart keyboard as well as a Smart Cover for iPad (9th generation). Can I use both together? I haven't opened the package for the smart Cover since I will return it if it is incompatible with the keyboard attached. Does anyone know?

It kinda depends on what you are doing. Will you be tossing it into a bag and carrying it around? Could it be subjected to scratches, dings and drops? Then a case or cover may be helpful to protect it.

If it’s never going to leave your desk then it may be fine.
