Able to ping over vpn, but unable to open services with new iMac

New to the Apple world with a new iMac, but having a strange issue that I can't seem to find the answer to. My work sys admin has looked around a little but we don't use mac's, so sort of on my own.

I connect to work over openvpn. I have 3 VPN choices and all are behaving the same. I connect ok and can ping multiple servers on my work network. As soon as I try to do anything other than ping, nothing happens. I can ping my webserver, but I cannot pull up the internal webpage. I can ping my IBM power server, but cannot telnet in (normal way of connecting). Same with SSH on various linux servers and RDP to my office PC.

I can take my work windows laptop, connect in from home over the VPN and get to everything just fine, which makes me think it is something on this machine specifically.

Same results with local firewall on or off.

I'll mark my own solved and share for that one random person in the world that has the same issue I did. I looked around and saw lots of people use Tunnelblick for openvpn tunnels on mac, so I tried that instead. Worked like a charm. Both OpenVPN's official stable client and their new beta client apparently have issues. I will report the issues to them.
