photography monitor

I have a 2017 MacBook Pro 15 inch laptop running Catalina 10.15.5. I would like to purchase a 24-27 inch monitor (am limited by physical space) to use for editing and repairing recent and some vintage photographs and slides. I am not a professional photographer. I can do basic editing and have attempted, with fairly good success, to touch up some old scanned pictures with the Apple Photos editor. Have used Photoshop Elements in the past and will be giving Luminar a try. I would like to get a photo monitor that will fill the bill regarding my somewhat limited experience. My budget is in the $400-600 range, a $1000 monitor is out of the question. Would really appreciate any recommendations/advice.
