If you have been using 2FA for longer than 2 weeks it is permanent and cannot be deactivated.

I think you have nailed it. I will submit to Apple just to see if they have a wavier for customers that will release them if you want to have 2 factor removed.

Apple has forced 2 factor authentication to cause us to forever maintain multiple devices in order to access our accounts.
It's such a pain. Every couple of weeks I need it to sign on to this forum, for instance, using the same browser on the same iMac.
