How to transfer a CD to iPhone

I added a CD to the Music App on my mac but I cannot see it on my phone. I'm getting conflicting info. Some info states that it will automatically show up on my phone with the right settings. I've done that but it does not show up on my phone. Other info says that I have to pay $10/month for Apple Music for this capability. Can I transfer my CD's to my phone????

Mac mini, macOS 10.15
