Is there any hope? MS Word auto-recovery didn't work

Microsoft Word just crashed on my macbook and when it reopened up with the auto recovered files they were not the latest ones. I had set the preferences for autorecovery to save every 10 minutes, but there are days of really good work I did on one document, in particularly, that are not there.

I've been in the autorecovery folder in Finder but there are no documents that show they were modified today. How did this happen and is there any way to get this work back?

Thanks. Yes, that was the first place I checked. But Word has just not been doing the autorecovery since a particular date. No modifications on the files since that date. No idea why it just stopped and its incredibly frustrating. I realised I backed up with Time Machine yesterday lunch-time. Have been in and the folder looks the same (as expected) so I guess I can't use that to restore the file?
