Quicktime access to iPad

I am attempting to share my iPad screen with my MacBook Pro so I can record my iPad screen via Quicktime. In QT, under "New movie recording" I can choose the iPad in the device drop down but I get a little yellow triangle with an exclamation point. When I hover over the triangle it says "this app is not authorized to use X's iPad". How do i fix? iPad has latest update. MacBook pro is running Mojave 10.14.6. The devices are connected with lightning to usb cable and iTunes recognizes the iPad. Thank you

Are you receiving this error when attempting to record a specific app? If so, the app may not support this functionality.
