I just got a USB C to thunderbolt adapter for my MacBook Pro. When I use this to hook my apple display, that uses a thunderbolt connection, nothing happens. I tried restarting - again, nothing. How do I fix this?

Is it The Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt adapter? What model number display? Apple made some displays with Mini DisplayPort, which will fit a Thunderbolt port but will not work with a Thunderbolt adapter. Does the display's plug have a lightning bolt icon?
