USB-C to Ethernet Adapter on Boot Camp

I would like to share with the community a recent experience.

I am referring to Windows 10 via Boot Camp. MacBook Pro 2016.

So I wanted to connect my MacBook Pro to my router via LAN cable using a USB-C to Ethernet adapter.

I went online and bought a 3rd party brand, the same brand that I use for HDMI adapter. The adapter worked one time only, then stopped working. The issue was listed under the Realtek GbE Family Controller driver. I kept receiving ‚This device cannot start. (Code 10)‘. So I started doing research, contacting apple and even windows. Plugging the hub before booting and after. Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver automatically and manually. I even reset my windows and reinstalled the Boot Camp drivers all over again. All of that did not result in success.

Bare in mind that same adapter worked on MacBook using macOS. Even worked on iPadOS.

Eventually I had the feeling that this might have to do with the adapter it self. So I went on Apple‘s online store and checked what brand of adapter they suggest. And I found the Belkin USB-C/Ethernet-Adapter. So I went over and bought it. And violá, it worked! The same driver had the error message no more. It was automatically installed and started working.

So here you go, if you‘re willing to connect to LAN on Boot Camp,The Belkin USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter - Apple (UK) the Belkin adapter is the one to use.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.14
