Why is visual voicemail on iphone XR not compatible with Consumer Cellular?
Consumer Cellular did not say anything about an issue of "visual voicemail" with my iphone xr.
Why don't these two things work?

OK. They don't support it.
Ask them why. It is up to the carrier to support that.
Are you saying they do support it on an 8, but not an XR?
If so, then the person you were talking to is an idiot, or just trying to blow you off.
Call them back and escalate the call. Either they support it or they don't. It does not work any differently on an 8 than it does on a Xr.
