Smart Albums in Photo

New Problem that I discovered.

When creating a Smart Album, this allows the user to use filtering of photos by a variety of parameters including the date range feature. (e.g. 6/1/2020 - 6/20/2020) and what will be in your album will be your photos for that period (what you've selected).

Unfortunately this didn't work for me, so the help agent from apple stated I should try creating another USER profile and seeing if this would work....the thinking of this use case scenario was that my photo library might have been corrupted. It wasn't but the test as tried, did NOT work.

So move on to the next use case, which is to reload the MAC OS system again. So I redid this, took an hour to bring in a new version of Mac OS version Catalina 10.15.5

Unfortunately, it's still not working!

Does anyone in the community have this issue with Photos? It woudl be a nice feature to use, but alas I can't get it to work as expected.

What are your settings for the language and region?

And are you creating the smart album with the date range rule for the "date captured" or "date added"?

"Date Captured" will search for the date the photo has been taken.
"Date Added" will search for the date the photo has been imported to the library.

The "Date Added" can change after each update of the library. The "Date captured" is more stable.

In previous versions of photos the date range rule did not work for certain language setting. You may want to test again with the primary system language set to "English, US".

If all fails, you can split the date range rule into two parts. Use "Match all: Date is after 5/31/2020 and date is before 6/21/2020).

I don't recognize the problem. I just checked a couple of my date-range Smart Albums, and they still behave as expected.

When you have this problem, does your Smart Album show no pictures at all, too many pictures, or just the wrong pictures?

Are you having this problem only with date ranges, or are other criteria also failing for you?

Is this an old Smart Album that started failing, or a new one that never has worked?

Is it possible you have some non-standard settings in Preferences > Language & Region > Advanced > Dates?
