I have an iPod shuffle that I am quite partial to, the screen is smashed and the software inside is doesn't always registered when I touch on the screen, is it possible to get it fixed rather than get it replaced?

Seeing as no model of iPod shuffle has an integrated display, are you referring to an iPod mini, iPod nano, or an iPod classic? Whichever the case Apple has classified these iPod models as obsolete and no longer offers repairs or replacements.
