in case of damage is the ipod classic able to be fixed? is the support for them still doing?

It might still be available, but isn't cheap from Apple. See iPod Service Pricing - Apple Support. You might want to shop around and/or consider an SD conversion kit to replace a failed hard drive, or buy a second hand device to scavenge parts.
