Virus on iPhone

I received a message on my browser saying my phone is infected with a virus and I need to act soon to prevent damage. Is this an actual virus or a threat of a virus? Can iPhones get virus and how do you remove them?

Just a few minutes ago, I was on a website, doing some research, when a message popped up saying: “Your iPhone has been infected with 25 viruses by this website, click below for solutions.” (Might not be word for word, what I remembered). I didn’t click below and simply closed the tab. I was just wondering, are those messages truly accurate, or are they just a way to scam/hack you? Virus on IPhone I would like to kindly ask, how will i delete/terminate a virus on my IPhone? A friend sent me a link, then i clicked it. I was directed to safari then a messaged appeared on my browser that I have 36 viruses on my IPhone that need to be deleted. Also the message indicated that I have only 4 minutes to delete the viruses or else my IPhone will be corrupted. What will I do?
