Changing number on text threads

I have just purchased a dual sim iPhone and ran a test from my secondary number to my boyfriends phone. Now, because it’s a text thread, I can’t change it back to my primary number. I’ve chosen my primary number in settings but it keeps sending from the number I started with (my secondary number)

I’ve searches online but cannot find any help.

is there any way I can change the number in the thread without loosing the entire thread? (I have every text he has ever sent me)

Hello AnneJac,

It sounds like you have some questions about switching your number for messages. I found this for changing the number for messages.

"Send messages with iMessage and SMS/MMS

You can use iMessage or SMS/MMS to send messages with either phone number.* You can switch phone numbers before you send an iMessage or SMS/MMS message. Here's how:

Open Messages.
Tap the New button, in the upper right corner of the screen.
Enter your contact's name.
Tap the current phone number.
Tap the number you want to use."

Hello

yes I have tried that. However when I enter the number I wanna write to, the phone opens my message thread with them, and I’m back at the beginning. It says ‘using secondary number for this thread’.
