Apple Pencil won't stay connected or taking too long to pair and then aborting

Tried restarting, forgetting device, disable & re-enable bluetooth and called AppleCare. The latter suggest I buy a new Apple Pen.

Suggestions on what to try next?

No, it’s basically telling you that your Apple Pencil is suffering from hardware failure and your option because it is out of warranty is to replace it. If it was under warranty then it would be replaced under warranty but because it isn’t. I’m sorry that replacing the pencil is not what you want to hear, however, it sounds like your pencil has failed and the only thing that can be done is to get a replacement.
