Problems reinstalling El Captain OS on an iMac 2008 after erase the disk

I want to pass on an old iMac 2008, so have wiped the HD drive and then gone to reinstall the OS, which was El Captain.

Download goes ok, starts the install, but then fails with a message on components to install

Have repeat the process with a wired Ethernet connection in case there was any wi-fi drop the could have corrupted the file ,,,, but same result.

Any suggestions

Hey Lloysj,

I understand you're attempting to install macOS on a previously erased drive.

Have you tried recovery mode using these other commands listed here? How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support. If you're still unable to install macOS, you could try creating a bootable installer using these steps: How to create a bootable installer for macOS - Apple Support.

Cheers!
