Lightning adapter plays music, but I can't hear phone calls

I'm trying to use my headphones for phone calls on my iPhone 8.

I'm using a lightning to 3.5mm adapter.

I can hear music fine, but when I go to make a phone call, the audio only comes out of the phone and not the headphones.

I tried recording a phone call with my zoom recorder to see if that helped, same issue.

I've read previous threads on this issue, this is what I've tried:

  • My phone is not on speakerphone
  • I went to accessibility and set call audio routing to automatic.

But still didn't work.

Bluetooth headphones are not an option for me. I either lose them or they're always dead.

Apple's lighting headphones that come in the box are uncomfortable and don't stay in my ears.

Are there any updated ways to troubleshoot this in 2020?

Let me know, Thanks!

Hi,

I have the same problem. I'm using iPhone 11 Pro iOS 13.6.

I bought Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter (Model A 1749, MMX62ZM/A). The calls are not going through the adapter+headphones. I replaced the adapter with new one (the same model) and the problem still exists. I can only listen to music. I tested this with different sets of headphones - the problem remains.

The adapter is detected by iPhone as "Dock speaker" instead of "Headphones".

I found some info of this device in phone settings:

Manufacturer: I want it

Model Number: IPDLI13

Serial number: iAP Interface

Firmware Version: 1.0.0

Hardware Version: 1.0.0

Why the adapter is not correctly recognized as "Headphones"?
