Midi volume is too low. No midi track monitoring button

Hello Community - and thank you for your help,

I use GarageBand 10.3.4. and a new Alesis V49 midi controller.

  1. The midi volume is way too low, and the velocity slide on the track is greyed out at 80. How can I increase the volume so that I can hear it with all my other tracks in a song? How do I activate the slider?
  2. Why is there no monitoring button on the piano midi track, but there is on all other tracks?

Question 2. There is no monitoring button on a Midi track.

Question 1. The trick is to use the gain on the Compressor plug in.

  • Click on the Smart Control Knob (top left of screen - looks like a knob)
  • Click on "Track" button in the lower pane. Click on "Controls" button
  • Under the Plug-ins - click a blank space and scroll to "Dynamics" and then select "Compressor"
  • A dialog box appears where the gain can be adjusted.
