I’m plugged into the mains, the power source is “power adaptor”, condition: normal, but the battery is not charging. I’ve gone down from 100% to 93% in about ten minutes of light indesign use.
what should I do?

Hm, I have the same issue too on my Macbook Pro 16 inch. As soon as the battery hit the 93% mark, the macbook was charging again. I assume that this problem relates to this article: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211094
I have this problem too, I went to Genius Bar a week ago and they said its a known software bug.
Never thought an expensive machine plugged with its original power supply will drain the battery, how ridiculous it is!
Mm Do you have another Macbook you could test your cable on?
The cable might be faulty.
What happens if you let it run down further? Your Mac will not charge if the current charge level is at or above a certain threshold (95% for older Macs, not sure on the 16" MBP since I haven't unboxed mine yet), that's to preserve battery health.
