i dont remmeber entering an encryption backup pasword for my backup and yet am been prompted to provide a pasword i never entered this sucks alot

i cant remmeber inputing an encryption password when backing up my icloud,i'm trying to restore my icloud now and it keeps asking for password yet i never entered any password.

iPhone X, iOS 13

If iTunes is asking, one was set. If not by you, by someone for this device at some point. One can't be created by accident, as setting it up requires you to enter it twice and confirm.


You need to know this encryption password (actually an encryption key) to create a new backup for this device or to restore that backup to an iOS device now..


If you do not know the password, you can reset it, but that effectively erases any current backups, but allows you to move forward and create new ones.

Turn off backup encryption

To turn off backup encryption, uncheck the Encrypted backup box in the Finder or iTunes and enter the password. If you can't remember your password, you have two options:

If you are locked out of your Apple ID account you can go to https://iforgot.apple.com

This will provide you with the recovery steps you put in place for this situation.

iCloud backups should not require their own password, as signing in to your iOS device with your Apple ID includes encryption.


Only an iTunes Backup would request an encryption backup password if one was set.


Are you sure you weren't making an iTunes backup?
