Apple Intelligence is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac!
I had this problem too - no input showing up from my Zoom H5 recorder. Checked all the usual places.
System Preferences could see and hear the input but no joy in Garageband.
Last resort I cycled through all the listed inputs on the tracks and there it was on Input 3. No idea why. Never been like that before.

I understand you are trying to use a third party mic in GarageBand.
I would recommend reviewing this article: GarageBand for Mac: Connect a microphone.
I would also recommend enabling record for the track you're trying to listen to, as this should allow you to hear mic input.
