MacBook Pro Late 2011

When I shutdown my MacBook Pro late 2011 the screen goes black and the mouse stays on the screen however it doesn't shut down. I have to hold down the power button to shut it down. I updated the OS earlier today to Sierra. I hope someone can help me solve this

Macbook Pro 2012 wont shut down after Mojave upgrade I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro to Mojave and it was working fine until I tried to turn it off. The screen went black with a grey spinning wheel and it fails to turn off. The usb mouse keeps working, so it is not turning the power off properly. I would really appreciate if someone has any solution to this problem. I know that turning it off manually is not good on the long run.

Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
