Apple Watch updating randomly

I have a series 3 Apple Watch. Sometimes it will randomly show a screen with a white circle around the apple icon. When I go to the watch app on my phone, it says my watch is synching. This happens at random times during the day, several times a week and can take over an hour. The white circle keeps starting over again. During this time, I can't do anything with my watch and I can't find a way to stop the sync and try to do it at a later time. The latest system update is installed on my watch. Is this normal? Is there a way to only have my watch sync at night so my usage isn't interrupted during the day?

My iPhone 7 was updated but the watch was not. Once the watch was updated and both had been powered off/on the issue was resolved. Hoping it will not resurface.

Yes, you are correct on both accounts. When I talked to an Apple rep he had me power off my watch and said if it continued to happen then there could be something wrong with my watch. But now I’m wondering if it would continue to happen even if my watch is replaced since I have an iPhone 7.

I have an iPhone X with Apple Watch 3 and this happened to me yesterday. The iPhone also went really unresponsive in basic apps like text and call.

Killing apps, hard restart, off on, did not fix it. I then turned it off for a good few minutes and after I'd turned it back on again I did not open the basic apps for a long time.

I have the same combo (iPhone 7 and watch 3) and the same issue. It’s incredibly annoying It seems to go away for a few weeks and return for a few days. But I refuse to get a new phone until this year’s generation is released. I figure that over four years is pretty good on the same phone.

I bet it's still doing it... and further I bet you have an iPhone 7. This seems to be a software issue that Apple has not addressed.

I understand your Apple Watch Series 3 is randomly showing a white circle around the Apple icon. It sounds like your device is not paired with your iPhone. I would suggest taking the following steps to address this:

Restart your Apple Watch - How to restart your Apple Watch

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch

Make a backup of the iPhone - How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Update the iPhone to iOS 13.5.1 if you haven't done so already - Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restart the iPhone.

How to pair your Apple Watch with a new iPhone.

Update your Apple Watch
