contacts created on iphone are never synced to mac's imessage app

hi,

this problem that any new contacts created on my iphone are never synced to my mac's imessage app has been an issue for a very long time.

How can i save a new contact on my iphone (which is now an SE 2020), and have it show up in my mac's imessage app, so i can write new messages by entering the contact in the search bar?

as it is, the only way i can find a contact there via search is if i had already been texting with them!

I have spent hours on the web trying to find the answer, with no luck.

First connect iPhone and Mac using a usb cable on the same network , make sure both devices are signed in with same Apple ID and password say example1@icloud.com

Follow this article https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mac-help/mchlf24d4e49/10.15/mac/10.15

open iPhone > click on contacts and click on plus sign on top right corner of the screen , enter first and last name , click on add phone ( enter the number ) , there are other options add email , ringtone , text tone , add address , add birthday , add date ......click on done ( on top right corner ) , open address book in Mac the contact details are shown immediately in All iCloud , you can open messages application and send message https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/messages/icht35827/mac

hi, thank you for your help!i tried the instructs you wrote and they worked!

however, the links you providedbrought up a question for me:-- it says "You can choose to sync your Mac and your device automatically whenever you connect them. To turn on automatic syncing, select General in the button bar, then select “Automatically sync when this [device] is connected”."

I would very much like to sync my Mac and my iphone automatically whenever i connect them! ---- but how can i when the "automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" checkbox is grayed out?

also, i recently bought a new iphone SE 2020, and i have a macbook air 2012.i used to have an iphone 5c, but i took it off my icloud account.

but now my messages no longer sync, my contacts dont either,

and plus, somehow apple seems to think my macbook IS my other device, because every time i come here to this forum and sign in via my macbook, a message pops up saying my "apple id is being used to sign in to a new device, enter this verification code to sign in, and i have to enter the code on my macbook right on my macbook's blanks that appear.

also, i have this persistent notice on my iphone's settings asking me to "update apple ID settings", then i AGAIN enter my password, but then it always AGAIN asks me to "approve this iPhone": "go to one of your other devices signed in to iCloud to approve this iphone."

BUT, all it does is say "waiting for approval" and shows that spinning wheel, and when i go to my macbook there is NOWHERE i can find to "approve the iphone" FROM!

ve tried going into my macbook settings/icloud but nothing is in there waiting to be approved.i can generate a verification code, but there is no where to put it!

and when on my iphone i try hitting that "cant approve this iphone?" message, these 2 choices pop up:reset encrypted dataor cancel.

i finally out of desperation tried that "reset encrypted data",' but it did not fix anything!

when i go to my online icloud account, i see both my macbook and my iphone se 2020 there and signed in.I have also tried signing out of my icloud on both devices, turning the devices off then back on, and re-signing in.

I also tried unchecking, then re-checking, the icloud messages and contacts. No luck!

another thing is, in iphone settings messages, if i try to turn on "share name and photo", this message appears: "sharing name and photo not available: because icloud and imessage accounts are different or are not signed in." but how can this be? i want them to be the same, and i only have one account anyway! and as far as i know i am signed in.(my macbook message account shows as my apple ID)

also, in macbook message prefs general, i have "message received sound" checked, play sound effects is too, but i never hear a sound! why, and how to fix? (and yes my macbook sound is up)

and, in macbook settings internet accounts, i see that i can check "messages" under the google account, but that option does no exist under the icloud account! for icloud there is only icloud drive, photos, mail, contacts, calendars, reminders, safari, notes, keychain, and find my mac.

I have spent hours on the web trying to find answers, with no luck! What to do???

thanks again in advance :)

I''ll try to explain using my Mac and an iPhone , I had initially created a gmail account the gmail address and password was kept as same and then signed in with system preferences using the apple id .

After few days I signed out the account from system preferences > iCloud and created a new Apple ID say example1@icloud.com

In your case - as your are describing in internet accounts only google account is showing as you have not synced google account with iCloud .

See the article https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT208532

https://support.apple.com/guide/messages/change-general-preferences-in-messages-on-mac-icht20001/mac

https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/messages/icht39422/mac

If the problem is there that no sound is heard use NVRAM / PRAM https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204063

Coming to your first half of the question whenever an iPhone and Mac is initially signed in with same Apple ID and password .

Please excuse me there are so many questions , here it is https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250250834

Any queries are left or unclear please ask once more .

actually, let me make it clear that both my google and icloud are showing up in my macbook's accounts, but only google includes the messages app!

but my iphone icloud settings does allow me to select imessage and i do have that on.

apple should really allow us to view our messages in the cloud to see if they are syncing!

as it is, i am guessing that my iphone's are syncing up, but not my macbook's.

but it always used to until last week!

the only thing i changed was to switch from my old iphone 5c to a brand new iphone SE.

then sign into icloud and back out, turn it all off then back on.

so far i liked my old phone much better!

anyway, so i would like to get my iphone messages to sync with my macbook's, like it used to!

any ideas on that?

thanks!

apple should really allow us to view our messages in the cloud to see if they are syncing! ----

When Apple ID and password is signed in at www.icloud.com there is no option to view messages physically as it is a server account , the messages are seen in the device synced with iCloud .

In the article https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT208960

See the last paragraph -  but they won't be stored in iCloud.

Send a feed back as its designed by apple engineers https://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html
