Apple Pencil (1st Gen) Won't Charge After iPad OS 13.5.1 Update OR Pair with iPad

Updated to 13.5.1 yesterday and now my Apple Pencil (1st Gen) suddenly will not charge when I plug it into the Lightning port on my iPad Air (3rd Gen).

The pencil pairs and works fine but the battery keeps going down lower and although it shows it with the charging icon, the % of the battery will not increase beyond whatever the current battery % is no matter how long it is plugged in.

Tried to have to forget the device and re-pair it to see if that helped and now the iPad will not recognize the Pencil as a device and cannot use it at all.

Come on now Apple, get me back my pencil!

Hello,

If Apple Pencil’s battery sits depleted for an extended amount of time then it will essentially ruin the battery preventing it from ever holding a charge which makes the Apple Pencil useless. Apple Pencil has a 1 year warranty (when purchased from Apple) which means that Apple will most likely replace it if the battery has failed.

I have this same problem. The pencil is not depleted, nor has it ever sat for a long period of time. However, after upgrading today to 13.5.1, it will no longer charge (or at least the percentage does not climb) regardless of how long it is plugged in to my ipad.
