I cannot update to the Catalina 10.15.5. It keeps restarting the computer but nothing is updated. How can I fix this?

Repair the Drive for El Capitan or Later
Now, Download and Install the macOS Catalina 10.15.5 Combo Update. If you still are not successful, then you need to reinstall macOS before trying to update.

I think that the main reason for which you cannot update to Catalina OS is because your Macbook is too old. Check manufacturing date of your equipment at Apple logo and afterwards, check Catalina OS requirements.
Otherwise, the macOS should be able to update it automatically from time to time
