Oudoor Walk does not record excercise time and I've tried every fix.
A very brief overview for those who don't know what I'm talking about: No matter what activity I pick on my watch - yoga, swimming, elliptical, etc., my watch records the time allotted to the activity and also records ALL of the minutes spent as exercise. The ONLY time I do not get exercise minutes credited (and that precious "closed circle") is when I choose "Outdoor Walk." I can walk outside for 30 mins, 45 minutes, even over an hour and have only a fraction of that time recorded on the "exercise" circle. Most typical is returning home from a 30 minute walk and seeing 2 to 3 minutes of "exercise" recorded. I realize Apple says that for an outdoor walk, you must reach a certain heart rate and/or walking speed to be counted as exercise, but why?? Why is is that requirement arbitrarily attached to that one specific exercise. Had I been doing yoga for the same length of time, every minute of that time would have counted as exercise, even if my heart rate got no where near the same as my heart rate during my walk.
From my research on this issue, I know this post is one of dozens if not hundreds complaining about the Outdoor Walk/Exercise recording problem. And I want to stress that I've read dozens of those posts here on the Apple Communities as well as articles and suggested fixes on other sites. Before deciding to join the fray and write this post, I've tried all of the "fixes" (I've unpaired and repaired, I've re-calibrated my watch - if there's a suggested fix out there, I've tried it) and not a single one makes any difference whatsoever. I've come to the conclusion that the way(s) the Apple Watch records Outdoor Walks must simple be a deliberate choice on Apple's part. My question is why. And my plea is for Apple to make a change to let us choose the way we want to watch to recognize & record Outdoor Walks.
I know people have said "just choose 'Other' when you leave for your walk and you'll get full credit for the exercise. While that will get me the closed "exercise circle" it defeats one of the very reasons I switched from FitBit to Apple watch - the GPS function that maps my walks. The reason I choose "Outdoor Walk" is to get a map of the area(s) I've walked. So I'm forced to choose between a true record of WHERE I walked and a true record of the exercise time I put in that day.
Can anyone at Apple at least acknowledge that -- for whatever reason -- this linking of heart rate to exercise time is specific only to the Outdoor Walk and either (a) give an actual valid reason why this is the case for only this workout activity and not others and/or (2) let us know if Apple plans to make any updates to this behavior by either removing the heart rate requirement from Outdoor Walk (which does not exist on other exercises such as yoga or elliptical) or allow individuals to CHOOSE to disable it? Moderate exercise is still exercise and should be counted as such. Additionally some of us are on medications that limit how fast our hearts will beat (I happen to take Bystolic and my heart rate rarely if ever goes over 110 unless I'm in aFib, even if I'm working out intensely).
I would sincerely appreciate a non-generic response to my questions here. Thank you in advance.
