Apple TV app on Roku "not currently available in your region"

I'm trying to sign in to the Apple TV app on my Roku 3 player. I'm in the United States, and this Roku player is supported, according to Apple itself. However, when I try to sign in, I get the message:


"The Apple TV app is not currently available in your region."


This is clearly not true; Apple Support says so. I removed and reinstalled the app, and I still get this message. I also checked the Roku firmware, which is up to date. I have been able to use it before, but not today. What's going on?
