Trying to Open and Edit Google Webp Images in Catalina

I've been searching for a way to easily open and edit Google Webp images. It seems to me there is no simple way, especially since I use Catalina 10.15.5 and the only Photoshop plugin I have found on Github, doesn't work well since I updated.

You can open Webp images directly in the Chrome browser but can't change the format so I can open them in Photoshop.

My workaround is to screenshot the image when zoomed in as large as one can make it in Chrome, then open the screenshot in whatever you want to.

It's a little long winded but effective, enjoy!

1) I am not familiar with the specifics, but this page may help:

You can easily download libwep, which includes a decoder.

2) I also found an interesting suggestion: if you load a website that includes webp images in Safari, it should present jpeg or png versions of those files. I have not tried this, though.

3) There seem to be online converters available. Again, I have not tried them, but it should be as easy as uploading a webp file and downloading a jpeg version.

I have developed my own work-around for opening the Webp files in question and making a file type (JPG, PNG) I can open and edit in Photoshop. After a long search for answers to this issue, without success I posted how I have gotten around the problem without online software or converters.

I use the Chrome browser as standard instead of Safari due to some functionality issues with a website I work with daily. Chrome does not have those issues so..... Chrome is able to view Webp images without problems too, another issue Safari seems to have also.

So this is why I don't use Safari, something I never mentioned in my initial post but I did mention the use of Chrome.

When I find and download an image that happens to be in Webp format, I can open it directly in a Chrome browser window but Chrome is not capable of changing the Webp format. I am able to see the image in the browser window without anything else around it so when I screenshot the image it can be opened in Photoshop or Preview and cropped for editing purposes.

I posted my workaround to help others, should I have found a post asking about how to do this?
