FCP X - Issue using synchronised clips

I have two issues while using synchronised clips for a music video where I am using split screen. I'm also on a deadline for next week and in a panic now!

Issue 1. When working within the synchronised clip expanded the audio is fine. When I go back to main timeline it plays slow, both audio and video, just a fraction but noticeable. I thought it was machine performance issue at first, but I've let it render and even exported a sample low res .mov and it plays slow in that as well. What is going on?

Issue 2. I'm new to using synchronised clips, historically the feature hadn't been good enough and clips were never synched up perfectly. But is there a way to work with the clips and FC not treating them as a time line of their own? I'm trying to line up different segments of the song with a variety of split screen creations and this is next to impossible, i'm using the force at the moment.

Many many thanks in advance!

You can't do what you want in sync clips. You either need to use multicam clips so you can use the angle viewer or manually sync the clips in a project. Multicam would be easy to use, except you would need to stack multiply copies of the multicam which would mean using proxies and have them on a fast system with fast drives, maybe a RAID depending on how many layers you need to do.

And important to convert all the audio sample rates to 48K.

If you’ve already done it in FCP you might be able to fix it there, but it’s not easy and you have to be careful. With iPhone media watch out for sync drift, starting out ok and getting more and more out of sync.

Post screenshots, caps, whatever you can. Put the screen caps on YouTube with a link.

Just so I'm clear - I'm to download a file converter which can change frame rates, convert any raw files which are anything other than 30fps to 30.

Then re-inport and re-synch?

What a nightmare, I'm so gutted, that's like a days work lost for me. :-(

Does it matter for my cutaways which aren't part of the synched clips? Can other clips in the project be varying frame rates?

I will also post a screen record of what I mean about how the clips are being treated in my time line.

Hi Luis, Tom,

The project is embargoed so i've made this a private link and I'll need to take down once you've seen which I assume I can do. Please let me know when you've watched.

So yeah, I'll get cracking on the file conversion tomorrow but can I just check.

IF I don't use synched clips will that sort the issue of slow playback? Can a project handle varying frame rates if I'm not using synch clips. I think I'm better off just manually synching the lot to be honest.

Thank you in advance!
