Hidden folder in instructions?

How does one see a hidden folder in a search using finder window as suggested below? Please explain. Search returned nothing.

  1. Click the magnifier icon  in the menu bar.
  2. Type or copy and paste this: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

This instruction was from this article: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204215

I discovered what the problem is: there are two magnifying glass icons for search on the screen when looking at a folder window: one in the menu bar at the top and one in the search box in the header of the window. I did not see the one in the menu bar until now. The pasted text ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ does go to the Backup folder using the search that starts from clicking that icon.

It doesn't go there if the magnifying glass icon in the search box in the window header is clicked and then pasting the text into that search box. Nothing happens there. I assumed that all magnifying glass icons that you could paste into did the same thing.

The instructions do say:

  1. Click the magnifier icon  in the menu bar.

Bad interface design. Should not use same magnifying glass icons for functions that perform differently, especially where they are visible at the same time.

  1. How about another sentence in instructions:
  2. (Not the magnifier icon  in the window header.)

What is the purpose of the search box in the window header if it can't do something simple like find an unhidden folder in the Library?
