Should photo scanning make my MacBook Air battery drain faster?

Ive been doing a lot of photo scanning with my MacBook Air 2019. The battery drains very quickly, sometimes going from 100% to 10% in only 1 1/2 hours (scanning maybe 150 Photos). Diagnostic tests say my battery is Normal. Can scanning put such a drain on the batter to explain this?

Sure, it's possible. Please read See how apps affect Mac performance, battery runtime, temperature, and fan activity. Using Activity Monitor to correlate that activity with rapid battery drain is simple.
