High Idle temps

Hello,

My Mac idles at around 70 degrees, and when doing intensive tasks such as Blender or video editing, my temps can reach 95-100 degrees. The issue is not related to dust as I have opened my Mac and cleaned the fans with compressed air.

Maybe the 100 degrees during very intensive loads can be normal, but at 88% CPU free and at 70 degrees, I don't see what's making it so hot. This is a fresh install of macOS, with very few applications installed.

I've also had a kernel panic recently while running Blender, although I'm not sure if that's software related or due to high temperatures.

Yikes...

Low disk space - This machine is running critically low on free hard drive space.

How much Free Space does a Get Info say?

Force quit Discord Helper.

Have you blown the dust out of the intakes lately?

What temperatures does this App report? Especially the GPU.

This App can be used to speed up the fans, all my iMacs would be dead without it.

Never ever ever drop fan speeds below the speed that the Mac itself is calling for.

The VPU(s) can take higher temps than the GPU, but both are too high for longevity.

No idea why 60GB free is not enough. Open Activity Monitor in Utilities, sort on CPU%, see if anything using too much CPU%, click on Memory tab, what is eating up the most RAM, & if its green in the chart or not when Blending.

The computer is starved for RAM too, please use Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilties - Activity Monitor) to monitor your RAM. In addition there is no backup for this. computer that I can see, that is a guarantee you will lose data. At the very very least, please begin using Time Machine to backup the device.

I just ran the following on my Late 2013 27 inch iMac with just a Terminal window and Firefox (2 tabs) running:

sudo powermetrics --samplers smc -n 1 | grep "(CPU|GPU) die temp|Fan"
Fan: 1196 rpm
CPU die temperature: 35.88 C
GPU die temperature: 38.00 C

The CPU temp is 95.22 °F. If you run graphically intense (e.g. Blender) applications on a Mac with limited storage and RAM, you are bound to drive up the temperatures.

Thanks for the reply. I don't really understand what it means by critically low space - I have 60GB free.

I have blown out the dust recently, and I am using Macs Fan Control to report temperatures. Even when running fans at max (2850RPM) while using blender, I'm still at around 95-100 degrees. GPU is at around 70 as well.

Thanks for the reply. I do have time machine, but since this is a fresh install of macOS I haven't used time machine yet, since I currently have all important data on my external drives.

With the RAM, I do run low, but not with regular use, just with intensive programs.
