Setting up a brand-new Macbook for my 9 year old - how do I set up?

I'm setting up a brand-new Macbook for my 9 year old for school purposes. I have a child Apple ID for him so I can use parental control. Is the best way to do this to set up an Admin account for me and then another account that is for my son that he can log in to when he needs to use his computer?

Does anyone have any guidelines or recommendations on this?
