Cannot download rented movies using tv app on macbook

I've rented several movies with tv app on my macbook. The purchase is completed, i'm charged but nothing happens. When i check for available downloads I'm also told "no downloads available." I find the item again in the store and it's obvious i've rented as it says i can "play" or "download." I hit "download" and it says "downloading" and a white circle spins but then it goes back to the cloud with an arrow and the option to "download" again. I can download on my iphone but cannot get this to work on my macbook.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

None of these work. The problem is bizarre and frustrating. Just again for clarity, here’s what happens:

* In the TV app on my MacBook I find a movie I want to rent

* I hit “rent” and purchase the right to rent

* Password is entered and the purchase is completed (as seen on my account information and billing email)

* However, when I go to “rentals” there is nothing

* Also, when I go to “check for available downloads” I’m told there are no downloads available

* If I go find the movie again in the store, it’s obvious the purchase was made as I’m given “Play” or “Download” as options.

* our internet isn’t good enough to play/stream so I hit “download”

* A white circle spins for several seconds and the words “Downloading” appear

* However, after 10 seconds or so, the button goes back to “Download” with a cloud and arrow

Hello Markandparx,

Thanks for the post! As I understand it, you're unable to play rented movies on your Mac. I'll be glad to see how I can help!

To troubleshoot, give these steps a try and see if they help to clear things up: If you can't stream or watch movies or TV shows from the Apple TV app, iTunes Store, or third-party apps

Feel free to reply back with an update. Have a good day.

Hi Markandparx,

Thanks for the detailed reply. You mentioned you're generally unable to stream content on the Mac due to connectivity, but you're able to download on your iPhone. Have you tried booting your Mac into safe mode to test? This helps to rule out a few possible software causes: How to use safe mode on your Mac. How does it work in safe mode?

Take care.

Hi Markandparx,

We appreciate the follow-up. To verify, it sounds like the behavior persists even in safe mode, correct?

Which exact macOS version are you using under Apple menu () > About This Mac?

By any chance, do you have access to a different Wi-Fi network that you could use for testing?

If you haven't already, it might help to try signing out and then back in with your Apple ID. You can do this by opening the TV app, and then clicking Store > Sign Out, then Store > Sign In.

If that doesn't help, to narrow this down further, we recommend creating a temporary administrator account on your Mac and testing to see if the same issue happens there also: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Kind regards.
