Deleting a clip without other clips shifting on FCPX

When I delete a clip on the timeline every clip following will shift. I would like to know how to delete a clip with out effecting my other clips on the timeline?

I saw a post from a long time ago that said to "press the large delete key next to the = key, not the forward delete key on the extended keyboard" but this doesn't work for me.

It just worked when I was editing my previous video, but it is no longer working.
