excess data usage with Apple News

Data usage for my husband and I has been 1-2Gb a month for years. Suddenly this month our data usage for my husband's phone jumped to 12.2Gb with no usage change. His phone indicates that 12Gb of that has been the Apple News App.

Something is way off, but we have not been able to figure our what.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

iPhone 6s, iOS 13

Hi there JL_7155,

It sounds as though you're noticing higher than usual cellular data usage and settings indicates the Apple News app is using the most. You're in the right place to seek a solution and, I'd be happy to assist.

Below is a resource that can help:

Check the cellular data usage on your iPhone and iPad

This resource provides great information on checking the cellular data usage for apps as well as provides the ability to manage if apps can use cellular data or if they are limited only to Wi-Fi.

Additionally, this resource below provides information on using the Low Data Mode feature to save on cellular data usage:

Use Low Data Mode on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

With Apple News specifically, Low Data Mode will turn off Article prefetching.

I hope this helps,

Cheers!
