iMessage issues

I have recently swapped my iPhone over and changed provider - completed the pac process - my old number has been transferred to my iPhone, but the iMessage shows as the temporary number - I have followed the guidelines to switch off messages and FaceTime in settings and I’m still unable to change the number over ! Any help ??
