Thunderbolt 2 display with new 2020 MBP

I've been using my 2017 MBP with my older Thunderbolt 2 display for years.  I use Apple's TB2-TB3 adaptor cable.  Just got my new 2020 MBP and everything is looking good except the new laptop won't recognize the older display.  Both laptops are Touch Bar model.  I checked with system report and the new laptop is not seeing the thunderbolt connection.  The old laptop sees it and connects.  Old laptop thunderbolt bus firmware version is: 41.4;  New laptop bus firmware version is 80.0.  Tried SMC reset, power disconnects & even MACOS reload.  No joy.

Any ideas?

Issue solved; my TB2 display has a bad (or at least marginal) cable. I used a seperate TB2 cable that I had on hand and plugged it into the spare TB2 connection spot on the back of the monitor and BINGO - the laptop connected. Didn't know you could do this. I guess it makes sense that both connections come together at the same bus inside the monitor. Anyway; problem solved. Hope this helps someone down the road.
