Why wont my new iphone verify my apple id?

I have a new phone and would like to use my apple id from my previous phone. I no longer had access to my old phone and so I could not verify it. I tried to reset it using my debit card so the system told me to wait 6 days. I ended up getting access to the old phone and sent the verification code to it. When I entered it in my new phone says that the verification failed. I can get into my account online but not on my phone. I guess I can finish waiting the 6 days and see if it fixes itself but I wanted to check if anyone had any experience with this.

Do you have access to another WiFi network where you can try? That has worked for several people.

Try a restart.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Try a forced restart.

Reset Device.

If necessary

Hard reset.

Do a backup and try a factory reset. Then restore from your backup.

Restore to Factory setting.

Backup - Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup.

The message you saw is common. I suggest you use my search link in trying to solve your problem: verification failed apple id. You will see a number of links that are, or may be, related to your problem. But, I have not seen a definitive solution for it.
