Temperatures 190-210˚F

Hi!

My macbook pro's have always run hot but seeing other folks complain about temps in the 110s has me worried that at 210 it's doing real damage. It idles in the 120s-130s. When working in Logic or Ableton or Adobe Premiere it will frequently get up to the 210s and max the fans out for hours at a time.

Pic below is with Premiere open but paused (not editing or even playing the movie).

I have a laptop stand that allows it to 'breathe' a bit better, and I have all software up to date -but this is not a new problem having to do with an update or new software.

So:

1) is this something normal and I should just isolate the fan noise when recording audio?

2) is it a problem that I can do something about myself?

3) is it a problem that I should have a tech evaluate?

Thanks!

cheers n' blessings,

Garrett

Thanks for the reply Chris! My concern isn’t the cover temperature. Rather, my concerns are: 1) the fan is audible when I’m recording audio and video; 2) one of my previous mbp’s “cooked it’s own motherboard” according to the Apple tech who replaced it for me.

SOLUTION:

For anyone else experiencing this, I ended up getting a program called “Turbo Boost Switcher Pro”. My computer is strong enough for audio and video editing without using turbo boost so this app prevents it from using unnecessary power -and thus from generating unnecessary heat. My temps and fan speeds have been back down in the range that everyone else reports now. (-: woohoo!

Hi gnorvell,

Thanks for your post! I understand that you are concerned about your MacBook Pro's temperature when working with pro level apps.

Refer here:

Keep your Mac notebook within acceptable operating temperatures

Specifically, "If you use third-party apps that measure the temperature of your notebook computer, it’s important to understand that they don't measure the external case temperature. The case temperature is much lower."

Let us know what you find out!

Take care!
