Universal Dock + iPhone = Output Volume Too Low!

Hi,
So I just recently bought a universal dock with the remote so I could play songs from my phone thru my stereo and basically just for the remote. The problem is that when I plug in the stereo cable in the line out jack on the dock, the volume is greatly diminished when I play a song, I have to turn it up way too loud for the volume to be acceptable. Also, if I plug the same stereo cable straight to my headphone jack the volume is back to normal, it isn't low anymore. I would really like use the line out jack from the dock instead of the headphone jack. Is there a reason why the dock messes with the iphones output volume?

I think this is a common problem. I'm having similar issues when I connect my iPhone to an FM transmitter through the dock connector. The volume is ridiculously low. But if I use an FM transmitter that goes through the headphone jack, the volume is perfect! This problem has been going on at least for the last 2 years and Apple just doesn't seem to want to fix it.

I just solved the same problem with a brand new universal dock. My iPod Classic (20MB) sits in the dock, which is connected to a wall outlet and, through the line out, to my stereo. Nothing exotic. It had worked fine when it was right out of the box, but suddenly developed the same problem as you're having.

Turns out the iPod must be powered down when inserted into the dock and started fresh when in the dock. That solved it. Now it's operating normally -- with as much volume as when the signal goes from the headphones jack straight to the stereo.

Hope this helps. (Hope, too, that this is indeed the solution -- and that my fix wasn't just a blip in an intermittent problem in the dock!)

Bad news. The fix I thought worked turns out to be no fix. I was just lucky. The dock works fine with my computer, but it work work propery with my stereo. The volume is barely audible.

Anyone else have dieas on this????

i have the same problem. when searching for a solution or anything i ran across your post and was wondering if you've discovered any sort of solution?

its very annoying, and sounds like garbage as it is right now

it's interesting, i wanted to buy this universal dock too, but I found out that this item is available at Apple Store without the ratings.... wierd right?

I guess they want to sell this, but don't want us to see the low ratings and complaints...
I had to go check it on another website where the rating was very low, with negative feedbacks.

I love Apple, but sometimes I don't, when I see these kinds of attitudes from their part...

conclusion, I didn't buy this universal dock...
